Attorney Shaun Kelley

Shaun Kelley is the founder of Anchor Bay Law. He is a former United States Marine Corps Sergeant and two-tour Iraq War veteran. Serving as a helicopter crew chief and machine-gunner, Shaun deployed during the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003 and again in 2004 during the Battle of Fallujah, known as Operation Phantom Fury. He has conducted over 300 combat missions as a helicopter machine-gunner/crew chief.

After his military service, Shaun worked in management for a major retail chain overseeing weekly revenues exceeding $250,000, and later for a general contractor working in both the residential and commercial construction and real-estate markets. His vast array of knowledge from his varied background gives Shaun a unique perspective which he uses to assist his clients.

Shaun began his legal career handling liquor liability claims on behalf of bars and restaurants, as well as hundreds of auto accident and personal injury cases each year. During this time, he also handled civil rights lawsuits, probate cases, and estate planning matters.

Shaun also represents real estate agents, brokers, property management companies, homeowner associations, and condominium associations. His practice includes transactional work such as preparing leases, land contracts, purchase agreements, and other real estate documents. He also handles the formation of for-profit and nonprofit business entities, as well as all facets of litigation involving real estate and business disputes.

Shaun is heavily involved in estate planning and probate, providing comprehensive services that include the preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and related planning documents. He regularly assists clients with probate proceedings, trust administration, and the settlement of decedents’ estates.

Shaun’s experience further extends to municipal law. He previously served as Assistant General Counsel and Prosecutor for the Village of New Haven and Lenox Township, both of which are situated in northern Macomb County. In those roles, he drafted ordinances, contracts, and policies, and provided legal advice at council meetings, planning commission meetings, and zoning board of appeals meetings.

Shaun has argued cases in the Michigan district courts, Michigan circuit courts, the Michigan Court of Claims, the Michigan Court of Appeals, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Shaun has also argued cases before virtually every administrative tribunal in Michigan, including the Michigan Tax Tribunal, the Michigan Employment Relations Commission, and the Michigan Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules.

Shaun graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from California State University, San Marcos in 2008, after being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps. He went on to earn his law degree magna cum laude from Western Michigan University Thomas Cooley Law School in 2014, where he served as a Senior Editor of the Law Review. He was awarded the John D. Voelker Award for his contributions to the law review and has been nationally recognized by Scribes – The American Society of Legal Writers for his work.

Shaun is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Outside of work, Shaun likes to spend time with his wife and four children.
